Portage Township Schools’ presence was both seen and heard at the Feb. 27 Circle the State with Song event, where 88 students showcased their singing talents.
Willowcreek Middle School choir director Natalie Franks is in her 16th year as the event’s Area 1 Middle/Junior High Coordinator. This year’s event was particularly special for her as Franks’s daughter participated in Circle the State with Song for the first time.

Elementary performances included “How Far I’ll Go” by Lin-Manuel Miranda, “I Want to Rise” arr. by Mark Weston, “In the Arms of an Oak” by Andy Beck, “Murasame” by Victor C. Johnson, and “Route 66” by Bobby Troup.
Middle school performances included “Baloo Baleerie” by Ruth Elaine Schram, “Credo” by Mark Hayes, “Elijah” by Dan Davison, “Kimineero” by Linda Spavacek, and “Walk Through Life” by Pink Zebra.
The elementary and middle school groups collaborated on a combined performance of “Can You Hear” by James Papoulis and Francisco Nunez.
